Blackpool has been the archetypal English seaside resort for generations, known across the country and the world for such iconic attractions as Blackpool Tower and the yearly Illuminations.
If, then, you’re considering having your stag do in Blackpool, you might fear that you’ll just end up doing the same things as everyone else does on their last big night of freedom.
Well, no worries, because here are a few of the great ‘alternative’ activities that you can do on your Blackpool stag do.
Experiencing The Big One
Oh, c’mon – you’re in Blackpool, so you have to do at least some archetypal ‘Blackpool’ things on your stag do. We’re talking, of course, about Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which remains one of the most visited amusement parks on the planet.
It is here where you will find the UK’s tallest roller coaster, The Big One, towering some 71.6m (235ft) above sea level at its highest point.
Meanwhile, set to open to the public for the first time this spring is the ICON ride, the UK’s first double launch roller coaster, for which boarding cards can already be purchased.
Going to see Funny Girls
This burlesque cabaret showbar on the town’s North Shore is based in what was once the town’s Odeon cinema, and features a cast of male dancers and drag performers.
With its stars including the original ‘Funny Girl’ herself, Betty Legs Diamond, as well as compere Diva DJ Zoe, Funny Girls has certainly become a Blackpool institution down the years.
Why not check out the official Funny Girls site for the latest information on this year’s show dates?
Zapping your mates in a game of laser tag
Paintball’s a bit… well, messy, so if you’re looking for a suitably action-packed, but also safe alternative, you can’t beat a bit of laser tag.
Luckily, it’s a bit of a Blackpool speciality, with an obvious place to head being Laser Quest on the Promenade. It works on the simple basis of points being awarded every time you ‘zap’ a player, and lost every time you’re ‘zapped’.
It all happens in an exciting purpose-built arena complete with obstacles such as castle towers, ramps, mazes and turrets, enhanced by state-of-the-art sound and lighting effects.
With the price per head potentially as low as £9.95 for an adult package, it’s an affordable option, too.
Getting up close and personal with animals at the zoo
Well, we did say “different”. Blackpool Zoo is one of the Lancashire town’s most legendary features, having been here since 1972, so you surely can’t miss the chance to pop in with your mates when you’ve got some spare time during the day.
With elephants, aardvarks, penguins, ostriches, snakes, lizards, spiders and so many more fascinating creatures all resident here, you’re guaranteed to see a level of wildness easily on a par with whatever you’ve got planned for the pubs and clubs that night.
This ever-popular resort can be a quirkier place to hold a stag do than you might think – and with leading online accommodation booking platforms like Toprooms also able to give you a great deal on a bed and breakfast in Blackpool for you and your friends, you really do have no excuses.
